Inner gilt dentelles (front inner hinge and board with vertical crack from handling). "The highlights in this finely printed series are undoubtedly the Bunyan, Goldsmith and Walton all of which are scarce. Published from ca. 1896 to 1905, the earlier editions London, Henry Frowde, the later ones London, Horace Hart, 584 pages, with portrait frontispiece" Bondy, 117. Henry Frowde was manager of the London office of Oxford University Press until 1913. Spielmann, 171. Welsh, 3103. The only miniature edition of one of the most popular and widely read 18th-century novels among Victorians. This miniature edition was bound by more than one binder for the publisher. This is variant A: lettered "The Vicar of Wakefield" in upper and lower case, in gilt along the spine with the same titling near the top of the the front board.
