xvi, 464 printed pages. Undated. Chromolithograph frontispiece of the Annunciation by F.Kellerhoven and over 400 wood engravings in the text. Yellow endpapers. Top edges gilt. Preliminary & last few leaves slightly foxed. Paper lightly tanned at edges else contents clean and sound. Two woodcuts have been coloured in an amateur hand. Front hinge split but still firmly in place. 20 x 28 cm. Original red cloth. Spine with gilt lettering and gothic black decorations at the head and tail. Upper board with gilt lettering within elaborate and decorative black blind stamped scrolling and lattice work; scrolled borders at the top and bottom. Spine very slightly worn at head and tail, corners very slightly bumped. Well received, profusely illustrated and attractively produced survey of Medieval European arts and crafts.
