Contains 40 vols bound as 20 (twenty), in red lambskin. Titles to spines in gilt and each numbered at the base of
the spine. 6 of the volumes have chipping to the top of
the spine and one has a cracked spine.
These 'forty bound as twenty' volumes, are as 'hen's teeth' and extremely rare and difficult to find if at all! Housed in a wooden replica of Shakespeare's desk, that may be seen in Shakespeare's House in Stratford Upon Avon, England. A label on the rear says that the desk is made from oak from Holy trinity Church where he was baptized and is buried. A previous owner (child) has scrawled on the desk lid, but this is not too obvious, otherwise this is in excellent condition.
(never seen any for sale in the last 20yrs
other than this one). Sold by a collector in a public auction at Bonhams, 9th November 2022.
