40.5 x 33 cm. Folio, iv including list of subscribers, 96 pp, Engraved title page & 24 engraved plates, the plates being engraved by the author. Light foxing from time to time, together with mild handling marks. Bound in full contemporary calf, sympathetically rebacked in the 20th century. Spine in six double gilt ruled compartments, with a green morocco label with gilt lettering. The boards have blind tooled foliate borders and have very light abrasions and scuffs. Corners and intermittently edges rather worn. Original bookseller's pencil marks on front pastedown endpaper indicating the original price of the volume being ten guineas. This is an illustrated work looking at the history of various colleges within Oxford University, written by the engraver Joseph Skelton. 'Records of Oxford Founders' is a history of the founding of various colleges at Oxford University. The university was possibly founded around 1096, which makes in the second oldest university in the world that has been operating continuously. The colleges discussed in this work are St John's, Jesus, Wadham, Merton, University College, Balliol, Exeter, Oriel, Queen's, New, Pembroke, Lincoln, Corpus Christi, Magdalean, All Soul's, Brasen-nose, Christ Church, Trinity, and Worcester. Joseph John Skelton was an engraver who lived in Oxford. He wrote 'Oxonia Antiqua Illustrata', 'Antiquities of Oxfordshire', and 'Engraved Illustrations of Antient Arms and Armour from the Collection at Goodrich Court from the Drawings, and with the Descriptions of Dr. Meyrick'.
