In Paris in 1813, there were about twenty chocolate manufacturers, including Louis-Robert Auger, who had already, ten years earlier, filed a patent on his method of processing cocoa to make it sweeter. In 1825, Menier bought the operating equipment of the Auger chocolate makers. The publication and distribution of tiny almanacs became an established incentive for customers to buy chocolates from the same retailer for New Year's Day gifts. On 25th October 2007, Christies auctioned a different copy of this same title, published by Perrot as opposed to Auger, [c.1820], and of slightly bigger dimensions, 25 x 18mm. That larger copy was described in the Christie's catalogue as 'rare'. This smaller copy is hitherto unrecorded and also rare.
