This slight but attractive book of less than twenty pages records examples of the outstanding woodcuts by Jobst Amman, a Swiss artist born in Zurich in 1539. Bound with vellum spine and marbled boards, the work is printed in Linotype Granjon on Kelmscott hand-made paper. The binding is plain with no title lettering and the book illustrates bookbinding and five associated trades - the printer, the typefounder, the papermaker, the draughtsman and the woodcutter. This small ediion is compiled from a much larger work - 'The Beschreibung alle Stande', published in Frankfort in 1568. This reduced facsimile copy remains in excellent conditon overall for its age. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. One of 400 copies Quarter parchment with marbled paper-covered boards, original slightly frayed glassine dust-jacket. A very good copy. The trades represented are: Printer; Bookbinder; Typefounder; Papermaker; Draughtsman; Woodcutter. 8vo, 19.5cm, 19p, Mergenthaler Linotype Company, Brooklyn, New York, 1930.
