Stunning French aide memoire etui in mother of pearl, circa 1820, of rectangular form engraved and infilled with silver and gold with oval panels of trophies within leaf sprays and borders, the curved top inscribed to one side 'Souvenir', to the other 'Damitie', interior with mark to upstand, provision for note book and complete with stylus, 4.2 x 8 x 0.8 cms. An étui of this quality would have been a luxury item, and very likely to have been originally sold, at some expense, at the Palais-Royal arcade in Paris, at about the time of the death of Napoleon Bonaparte. Pistner, 63 (similar example).
