Contemporary red morocco; spine with two raised bands and gilt horizontal rules; covers with gilt pointillé tulip desin within scrolling gilt borders and floral corner-pieces. Spine rubbed, gilt faded; corners and edges slightly abraded. The Ganshorn Biblia was the basis for the English 1727 Biblia. A literal Dutch translation from the German of Georg Christoph Ganshorn's 1704 Altdorff Biblia - the first German Protestant Thumb Bible. This copy is the most complete surviving copy of a rare and early Dutch thumb bible - unrecorded by Doris Welsh and only known to exist other than this copy in four examples, all of which are incomplete.
